💬 A Customer Called Us Out for “Randomly Quoting” Shipping Costs — Is It True?
We’ve all been there — that one customer who storms into your inbox accusing your business of being a scam because the price seems “way too high.” At Indo4ward, we totally get it. Shipping can be confusing, and when it comes to cross-border orders from Indonesia, it’s even more complex than it looks.
While we always keep our cool (and we appreciate your feedback!), we also believe in radical transparency. So let’s clear the air and explain how our pricing really works — and why we’re definitely not randomly quoting anyone.
🧭 How Indo4ward Actually Works
Unlike traditional logistics companies, Indo4ward doesn’t operate the full end-to-end shipping line. Instead, we work with a network of multiple vendors across Indonesia.
Why?
Because in Indonesia, logistics can be unpredictable. Vendors might:
- Run into route restrictions or customs issues
- Withdraw their service at the last minute
- Change their pricing or feasibility without notice
By partnering with multiple vendors, we ensure:
- Redundancy — if one vendor backs out, your order doesn’t get stuck
- Continuity — orders can still flow through alternate partners
- Better rates — we balance orders across vendors to keep costs competitive
⚖️ Why Shipping Isn’t Just About Weight
If you haven’t read our recent article, “It’s Light — So Why Is the Shipping So Costly?”, it explains this perfectly.
Shipping costs aren’t as simple as putting your item on a scale. The size (volume) of an item can be just as important as its weight.
For example:
A lightweight but bulky motorcycle fender or glass vase still takes up valuable space in a cargo hold — and that space has a cost.
That’s why shipping companies (and Indo4ward) calculate shipping based on volumetric weight or actual weight — whichever is higher.
💸 Why Indo4ward’s Product Prices Sometimes Look “Inflated”
Here’s where things often get misunderstood.
Indo4ward’s listed product prices already include part of the estimated shipping and handling cost. This isn’t random — it’s intentional transparency.
We do this because:
- We don’t want you to feel shocked at checkout seeing the shipping cost suddenly multiply.
- We want to give you a clearer all-in-one estimated price upfront.
When we quote, we factor in:
- The lowest possible denominator of shipping cost based on dimensions
- The base shipping fee (often calculated at 1KG minimum weight)
- A service fee that helps us manage vendor communication, shipping compliance, and customer support
🧾 Handling Fees — What They Cover
Our order handling cost isn’t just a random charge. It covers:
- The base logistics fee to initiate shipping
- Documentation and vendor coordination
- Service maintenance (yes, even handling unpredictable local vendor behavior)
We strive to keep these as reasonable as possible — but we’d rather stay transparent about what’s included than sneak it in later.
🕵️ The Eagle’s Eye
So, do we randomly quote you?
Absolutely not.
Every quote is calculated based on size, weight, vendor availability, and real-time cost factors in Indonesia.
But if you truly believe there’s a mistake — we mean it when we say:
Drop us an email.
Our founder personally reviews such cases “like an eagle,” ready to look into your order and find a fair solution.
❤️ The Indo4ward Promise
At Indo4ward, our goal is simple — to bring Indonesian products to the world with honesty and integrity.
